Your book feedback needed
I have a favour to ask. If you’ve bought the Logo Design Love book, I’d hugely appreciate you leaving some feedback on the bookseller website.

The number of “stars” you rate the book isn’t important. What is important are your genuine thoughts about what it was like to read, where the content could be improved, if (and how) it helped, and your opinion on the design and layout.
I’m going to write a second book. I’m not sure when, but I want to improve upon my first, so constructive criticism is very welcome.
To help, here are links to the book where you might’ve bought your copy:
Amazon.com
Amazon.co.uk
Amazon.ca
Amazon.de
Barnes & Noble
Borders
Peachpit
chapters.indigo.ca
The Book Depository
If you picked it up from another seller, please let me know where. I’ll add the link. Or if you only have time to leave a comment on this post, that’s great, too.
And thank you.
Thank you very much.

Just left you a review at Amazon. Said it would take 48 hours to post, but I can’t wait that long:
“The favorite books on my shelf, in all subjects, are always small. Small does not mean scant. My favorite small books are always incredibly dense, and have dispensed with extraneous chapters, trivial pursuits, and needless diversions. David Airey’s “Logo Design Love” is such a book. It is a comprehensive survey of the logo design process. It’s easy to read quickly. It’s lovely to hold. It has that “now this is a book I want to keep” feel to it, and is reserved on my shelf in my favorites section. Or “favourites” as David might put it.
I know David from his blog. His personal, conversational tone on his blog bleeds right over to the book. Warm yet consummately professional. He tells you what you need to know about logo design, and refrains from abstruse pontificating that some other “Goliath” design books get mired in. That is very refreshing!
If you are looking to break into the designing of logos and brands, there is no better book I’m aware of to do that succinctly, on budget, and on time, than Logo Design Love. Big things do come in little packages sometimes!
Highly Recommended!

I posted a review on my site…

and copied to my amazon account.
Overall: Great book. Love all the insight. Love the applicable advice. Lots of good info. If I had to ask for something different, I would ask for more insight as to why you liked the various logos included throughout the book.

I would be more then happy to write a review of your fantastic book. I purchased mine from Chapter’s, here in Canada.

I left a review on Amazon.com back in February when I bought the book.
It’s really a great book. You have a loyal audience on your blogs because of your writing style, and the thoughtful things you have to say. It translates perfectly to your book.

I purchased my copy from The Book Depository http://www.bookdepository.com/ in January 2010 and have recommended it to others many times.
I love the book being a compact size and only 200 pages and the conversational tone. ‘Anyone can design a logo, but not everyone can design the right logo.’ After more than 35 years in design I know this is true. David has created a truly comprehensive reference with a very readable and nice layout. Using a sans-serif for body copy only works well if you have the right amount of leading and David has done that. The text content and the chapter headers are creative in their own right, and each chapter is broken down into bite size chunks for excellent comprehension. I was very happy to note that David also stresses the use of sketching ideas with pencil or pen first and to think laterally which is such an important part of the concept development process. Congratulations on a fabulous book and I look forward to the next one.

I’ve added the chapters.indigo site to the post. Thanks for that, Robert.
Loved the review, Anna. Great to have you following my blogs these past years. Likewise, Sean. And Mircha, I hope you enjoy it.
Karen, thanks very much. With your experience that’s superb to read.

David what more can I say in praise for Logo Design Love the book? The rest of you can see my original review on Amazon.com (it’s the first)
http://www.amazon.com/Logo-Design-Love-Creating-Identities/dp/0321660765/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1276557490&sr=8-1
Except that I can’t wait for another David Airey book to add to my shelf! In regards to the books layout and design: I love it, and so do the clients I have given it to at the onset of our identity design process. It is clear, easy to read, visually stimulating, has valuable examples, upon examples, and is probably the best laid out design book overall of the many tomes on my self.
Speaking of tomes, I think one of Logo Design Love’s biggest accomplishments is it’s size, a nice, small, non-intimidating book, but packed full of as much “take away” information as you often get from other “bricks” of design books. I admit, I own several design books that I started reading and never finished, yours I’ve read cover to cover 3 times! And it’s the size that has prompted me to hand out copies to my clients to improve our communication at the onset of our identity design process…Hell, if I can get a client to read it then no one else has an excuse, and I’ve gotten them to read time and time again!
Perhaps the ultimate testimonial for the book and your clear approach and breakdown of the process is this: One of my clients (who shall remain nameless) started the design process with me but put a stop to it a few days after I handed him the book. Being the type of person I am, I told him to hold on to the book, read it, and get back to me if and when he was ever ready to proceed. A few months later I ran into him at a networking function and he was acting really bashful, almost guilty around me. I asked how things were going and he said “good” then excused himself to tend to the bathroom. It was a few minutes later that I saw fresh business cards bearing his name and, what was that…a logo? Yes! At first I thought perhaps he had gone the “cheap” route and hired a crowd sourcing site to do the work, but this logo (though not drop-dead amazing) did have more thought incorporated in it than any I most I had seen developed by a crowd sourcing site. That was when the person next to me asked what I thought of “Ed’s” new logo? Apparently before I got there he had gone around bragging about how he developed it himself using a book he picked up…the name of that book: Logo Design Love, by David Airey :)
Despite the rather comical approach the last story took, I do highly recommend using David’s book if you are a designer looking to improve your clients understanding of the process, and thus your client-creative relationship. I have used it numerous times to great success and often receive feedback like the following:
“I went against my partners recommendation when I hired Creative Beard to design our new company’s logo. My partner was sold on 99designs.com promise to deliver logos basically until we were satisfied with one. That sounded good to me, until I talked to Chris and heard what, he claimed, I would get with them as opposed to him and what actually goes into designing a logo, or brand mark as he calls it. Because he had some credentials to back him up, like being published in several books that had “identities from leading designers” in the title, I decided to take the leap. When Chris presented me with “Logo Design Love” a book by David Airey, I was impressed. He said he wished us to have as much open communication as possible at the outset of our design and that this book would help my partner and I understand what we should expect and hold him accountable for during the “process”, a word he uses a lot. I knew then that I had made the right choice, anyone with the confidence to give a book by another designer and say “hold me accountable” had my vote of confidence. I read the book, my partner did not. I thought it was very well written, I have a sales background and never really knew what went into design, but I learned a lot from it. Presentation time arrived and Chris blew me away with his designs. He thought of avenues I could not have dreamed of and totally surpassed my expectations and my partners too.” – J. Hall

Before I tell you how awesome the book was I just want to say as of June 18, 2010 around 7am before I headed to work I finished your book (Honestly); I don’t make it a habit to visit blogs habitually but I just happen to come to your blog today and see this post and I had to add a comment.
I love this book mainly because it had a simplistic approach to instructing designers on the process of brand identity and all the things that are related to developing a time less design. I attend on being one the best of the designers that ever lived and books like this help me get a step closer to my goal.
I wish you the best.
Sincerely,
Isaiah Frazier

I’m a big fan of the Logo Lounge series but this looks good and I’ll definitely consider adding it to my shelf. Doing pretty well on Amazon.co.uk 18 reviews, 4.5 stars!
Keep up the good work.

Picked up the book one evening at B&N while looking for a book on web development/design. Finished the book same evening, but still pick it up all the time. It opened my eyes to the world of branding and design in its’ short pages. I found it interesting that when i read the book, i was more inspired than i can remember being during 4 years of design school. The quality of my work has increased greatly (10fold?), not to mention my ability to express ideas vocally -to clients, critiques, etc… since those few hours in which i read the book.

Hi David.
Just finished reading the free chapter of your book and I have to say it was amazingly detailed and I learned a lot from that one chapter alone, needless to say I’ll definitely be buying the book soon.
One thing that has me curious though, is that your name on the front cover is all lower case rather than having the d and a capitalized, what’s the reason behind this?
Really looking forward to getting the book :)
Thanks,
Callum.

I absolutely loved your book! I am just starting out in this wonderful world of branding. I have been feeling very unsure of how to get going in my career because I majored in city planning in college, not graphic design.
Your book really inspired me, and helped me feel like I can do this! I understand the process a lot more now, and loved how many examples of logos you had. I happen to love modern, minimalistic style, so the design of your book really attracted me to read it. Thank you so much for your wonderful advice, and making me feel more confident about setting out to start a career I am not technically trained in!! :) Keep on writing books!

Hi Callum, the lowercase name was to oppose the uppercase title. Perhaps something different would’ve worked better, but at least the content feedback has been mostly superb.
Ariane, thanks so much for the review, and for replicating it on Amazon, too. That was very kind of you, and greatly appreciated.
Gillian, it’s comments like yours that make me want to keeping writing. Brilliant. Thank you.

David,
I was looking for a book on graphic design and via Garr Reynolds found your book. I’am a TV executive reading a lot of books on all sort of subjects. So I also wanted to learn something more about graphic design. I appreciate the chapters you wrote on that subject. I found the how to start a business side fare less interesting (for me).
Good luck with your second book.

I am an animator/illustrator so i never really learned a lot about logo design and the finer points of graphic design. But I find myself doing logo and web design more and more these days. I was at a loss until I came upon your book. It really described the process in a way that I understood. I can’t tell you how much this book has helped me. Keep up the excellent work and I look forward to your next book.
