The V&A Museum has paid slightly over £50,000 at auction for the original drawings of the Rolling Stones logo, devised by British designer John Pasche in 1970, it announced last night.

Bayer’s corporate logo, the Bayer cross, was introduced back in 1904. It consists of the horizontal word “BAYER” crossed with the vertical word “BAYER”, both words sharing the “Y”, and enclosed in a circle.

In 1963, Peter Benenson, founder of Amnesty International, wrote to a local member and artist to say that her design, a candle in barbed wire, had been chosen for Amnesty’s first ever Christmas card because of “its simplicity and the effectiveness of its symbolism”.
