Hmmmm, first time I’ve had a play on the D&AD site, runs slow as sheisse on my crappy broadband. The strange scrolling system at the very bottom freaked me out, which is kinda cool!!
Workwise, you gotta love the simple genius of the Simpsons 7/11 project, that just designed itself. That’s one of those projects that you just wished you were in the room when the idea was slugged out.
Something about the Museum ID I like, it’s got a nice flow and grabs your attention. Looks like they can make a strong visual style look very different if they push it.
The Saks makes me think though. Seen this a few times and I like it’s old school New York fashion kind of feel with the 80s-esque contrasting details, but, as much as I love scripts I just don’t think it works in unison with the rest. That said, I do like the script on black as a stand alone element.
Communication Arts just released its Design Annual as well (got it in the mail a couple days ago). I recognize that Down Below one… eh heh *blush* Took me a while to figure that one out.
Is it just me or is the branding for the “Museum Boijmans van Beuningen ” eerily similar to the 68 Olympics in Mexico. . .
Tight down to the “08″ and the “68″
Just something I noticed.
Hey no worries David. Literally left my job 6 or so weeks ago and set up the, slow but effective blogspot for the time being. I’ll enable posting if you ever fancy saying hi! You can check the logo changes too, I’ve still got some playing around to do with that.
As for Arden, I’ll be getting my hands on the rest of his words asap, inspiring stuff and very relevant I thought.
Hmmm, waited 10 minutes for the site to load before I gave up, not sure why it was so slow, I’ve got fairly decent DSL. Too bad as the pictures you posted looked interesting.
Now that is a burning topic that has been bugging me for a long time.
I found the same thing, I was enjoying how the site was a bit crazy and the shaded scrolling system at the foot of the page was odd but cool. BUT, I think site designers/programmers need to chill out a bit and realise why people go on them and not to see how many of the latest tricks can be put into one project.
David, I think that CA overseas is pretty expensive :( I think it would be worth it (each magazine is practically like a book!), but I realize there are other equally impressive publication for a lot less money in Europe. I can take some pictures for you, especially of the branding section. Maybe I’ll share them on my blog. I left it at work this weekend, though, so it’ll be a bit.
I definitely prefer websites that aren’t heavily reliant on Flash. Sites such as Leo Burnett are incredibly clever, but not great for finding information fast, or directing others to specific pages.
Lauren,
I’d certainly be interested to see, should you decide to share the photos on your blog. Please don’t go to the effort on my behalf, but I do think it’d make a nice post.
I have been on the D&AD site before, but that was a long time ago. Thanks for reminding me to revisit this site. there are some really creative designs there. I will probably visit this site more often now.

Gotta love the Kwik-E-Mart brand! Nice to read your thoughts on the others. Cheers for dropping in again.
Lauren,
I’d like to see the CA annual. Will have a look for it now. As for the Down Below brand? Hehe. I had to read about it too.

Definitely a close resemblance. Lance Wyman’s design inspired many people, no doubt.
Al,
So is this a move to full-time self-employment? Whatever your new role, I hope it works out brilliantly for you.
George,
That’s a shame the site wasn’t working for you. It’s not the most user-friendly. Why is that the case with a lot of design websites?

That site was craaaaaaazy, I didn’t find the main script logo that nice though but the tech side was pretty amazing.
Not what I look for in a site but still, seriously appreciate that kind of stuff. Jealousy maybe?
I can only just program a C64 to repeat my name across the screen.
