Entertainment blog logos
Today it’s the turn of entertainment blogs to have their logo designs featured. Shown below are your nominations for the third of 10 categories in the Logo Design Love Awards.
There have been some contentious remarks about the previous two categories (business blogs and design / photography blogs), and it’s worth remembering that the quality depends entirely upon the logos that readers have submitted.

Logo Design Love Reader Appreciation Award
As well as the overall winner judged by the design panel, there’ll also be a Reader Appreciation Award, chosen by you. One logo from each blog category will progress into the final round, and it’s up to you which one. List your favourite design (or 1st, 2nd and 3rd favourite) in a comment. Once all categories have been published, the votes will be counted.

Ociotakus – design, haven’t seen anything like this yet
Truemors – play on words, love it, design is ok
(celebitchy is second for play on words but I don’t love the design)

Seriously…these logos are pretty darn aweful. They aren’t particularly rememberable. I wouldn’t want to brand my site with one of them (if I had a site).
If push came to shove I would probably go for:
1. Popsugar (slightly more innovative than the rest)
2. Vanity Fair (it uses a striking fontface)
What are your thoughts? Am I not seeing something?

Most of them are cliche. Mamapop is probably the least practical logo. I’d call it an illustration not a logo. Sk*rt is the only one that has some original typography.

By all means, if you see an entertainment blog logo that you feel is of higher quality, please let me know.
I had a search for other entertainment blogs, and couldn’t find any logos that would make it ahead of this group. I’m interested to see which one the design panel deems worthy of making the final.

Ist that supposed to be Univers in your header? Look at the O, S, G, D, they’ve got bumps all over them, if that’s a derivate I’d go for LT or Adobe version ;)

You were right about the Univers, and how the letters weren’t formed correctly. Not sure how I picked up that particular typeface, but I prefer Gotham in this case. H&FJ are superb at their craft. Without doubt.

David, I think Univers per se is an excellent typeface, just like every other typeface by Frutiger. But there are some badly digitized versions of it, for example the early Bitstream version comes to mind. They can be also found as free fonts, or kinda system fonts, like Swiss 721 which is in fact a bad copy of Helvetica. The real Linotype or Adobe version is still flawless, timeless design, it’s turned 50 last year just like Helvetica, but it looks so much fresher IMO.
