Slow news day

Apparently it’s harder than I thought to be original.
“You gotta wonder — at least I did — if Apple was inspired by the creative doodlings of AOL in crafting their invitation to their press event on Jan. 27, where the highly anticipated tablet, or ‘iSlate’, device is expected to appear.
“A similar artistic sentiment appears to be at work in both instances. You’ve got bursts of bright colors that encase the company’s logo (Apple) or name (Aol).”

Dear me, I think I’m looking forward more to the Apple event than I did queuing for Avatar in 3D ;)
I want an iPad/iSlate/iTablet already, even though I’ve no idea what it supposed to do!
As for the design, I quite like it, but it is totally unoriginal I suppose…

I always thought the invite graphic was super amateur looking.

Throwback to 2002 when grunge brushes were “the thing.”
You’re better than that Apple!

I like it—even if it is unoriginal.

I couldn’t help but comment on that article – slow news day indeed. But goes to show, if enough people start rattling on about the Aol ‘rebrand’ it will get to the point where, according to the masses, they did indeed invent text white out of an image.

If I did that in my work I would be lambasted as a plagiarist, but it’s OK for big companies to be inspired by other big companies. They have more designers and resources to be able to come up with original ideas. (Well semi-original as everything been done before).

Not plagiarism, but definitely ’00s-ish.
Martin Boath, hilarious: “[AOL] did indeed invent text white out of an image.” haha

The advertising so far? Terrible, hate it, its is very eighties and not in a good way!

Well… if there is a concept behind it: So what? Let them do it.

Apple has historically been brilliant at reinventing and recontextualizing old(er) genres. But from what I’ve seen so far The iPad graphics don’t function at that level. I’m going to hold out for being pleasantly surprised when we see where this campaign goes.

I must admit that I never understand the mass hysteria for every product that Apple releases.

Don’t Try to be original. Just try to be good.
