Apple has historically been brilliant at reinventing and recontextualizing old(er) genres. But from what I’ve seen so far The iPad graphics don’t function at that level. I’m going to hold out for being pleasantly surprised when we see where this campaign goes.

If I did that in my work I would be lambasted as a plagiarist, but it’s OK for big companies to be inspired by other big companies. They have more designers and resources to be able to come up with original ideas. (Well semi-original as everything been done before).

I couldn’t help but comment on that article – slow news day indeed. But goes to show, if enough people start rattling on about the Aol ‘rebrand’ it will get to the point where, according to the masses, they did indeed invent text white out of an image.
