Wolda 08 now open for entries

Wolda 08 annual

Wolda, the worldwide logo design annual has now gone online and is open for entries by May 20, 2008.

Designers, agencies, studios and students from all over the world are invited to enter. Winners are selected by an international three-tier jury consisting of Designer, Client and Public Judges provided respectively by Icograda, Aquent and Consumers International. All the winning logos will be showcased online and published in a printed annual on SAPPI acclaimed papers by Fontegrafica (both sponsors of Wolda).

Some of the entrants and winners will be published here on Logo Design Love, with a few personal thoughts of my own. All the rules, prizes and fees are published here: read the Wolda rules.

I might enter Wolda ’08 but last years Eulda was quite a disappointment compared to its previous year. Some strange choices on certain winners, but I guess its all about personal preference.

I was also a little underwhelmed by last years Eulda finalists, and agree that the prior year was of a higher standard. If you do enter, let me know. I’d love to see the design you put forward.

Thanks for pointing this out David! I’m seriously considering participating, but unfortunately 2007 wasn’t a fruitful year for me in the logo department. Very scarce selection — but I hope I’ll be able to dig up something worth submitting.

Will you submit something this year? (and did you last year?)

I didn’t submit anything last year, and am not sure if I will for these awards. Like David above, I wasn’t too inspired by Eulda 2007.

Dear David, dear all,

hello form Wolda! First of all allow me to present myself: it is Areti, the director of Wolda. It happened to notice your comments and although I respect your points of view, let me simply tell that the logos you have probably seen on our website are only the winners of the “Best of..” awards. The rest winners of merit are showcased in the book only and thus you need to have a look there as well. Most of them are even more genuine and original than the ones voted as “Best” but the voting is something completely subjective and up to the judges.

More importantly, I must point out that the quality of the winning logos has to do exclusively with the quality of the logos submitted. From our end, I assure you that apart from trying to be organised as well as possible, collaborate with the most prestigious societies on the field of design and market like Icograda, Aquent, CI and achieve the widest promotion possible for us and our winners without asking any winners’ promotion fee nor extravagant fees to participate, I guess there is little we can do further.

We are always open to comments and suggestions though..

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

To be honest, and in your defence, I haven’t seen either of the Eulda annuals, so I appreciate that the quality of the ‘best of’ is entirely down to the judges. I’m interested to see the contents of the books.

I know first hand how the quality can only be as good as the submissions, albeit on a much lesser scale with my Logo Design Love Awards.

Best of luck with Wolda, and I look forward to viewing the ‘best of’.
