Starting April 10th cyclist Mark Beaumont will attempt to bring home the coveted Cairo to Cape Town world record.

“I’m planning to go for 50 days, riding 150 miles a day, which is 50% further every day than I did going around the world. The way I’ve hopefully managed to do it is by building a much, much lighter bike and by training differently. I’ll just be carrying the equivalent of a 30 litre day pack, but I’ll be out there alone for 50 days.”

No-one has gone close to this quick through Africa. It took Robert Knol 70 days in 2011.

Mark asked Glasgow-based O Street to design a logo that was “bold and simple, with a human element.” Led by designer Ed Watt, the studio created a hand-drawn logo to capture the spirit of the Africa Solo adventure.

Proceeds from Africa Solo are going to Orkidstudio, a humanitarian design organisation whose focus is to benefit children and communities through innovative design and construction.

You can follow the expedition on markbeaumontonline.com where a GPS map will update Mark’s position every 30 minutes. And you can see more work from Glasgow’s O Street on the studio website.
