The Helsinki studio of Bond created the logo for Eero Aarnio Originals, the new company that manufactures Aarnio’s original designs. The logo is based on Aarnio’s most iconic piece, the Ball chair.
Photography by Carl Bergman.
Bond experimented with various design executions before finalising the mark, and while the typography on the right (below) still gets the idea across, it’s obvious how much stronger the one on the left is, despite being too detailed for the website favicon.
The Ball chair was designed in the early 1960s, debuting at the Cologne Furniture Fair in 1966.
“And since I tend to simplify things, I removed all the corners.”

The logo is pretty clever, just wondering how it will look at a smaller scale. Overall I like it.
I love the chair, the logo and the website.
I really, really wanted one of these chairs as I was a huge fan of the Prisoner (the original 60s version).
But there are two problems.
1. They don’t fit through a normal doorway (many repros do, the original needs an 82cm+ wide door).
2. The one I sat in was incredibly uncomfortable! It was one of the saddest moments of my life.
They do say you shouldn’t meet your hero’s in the flesh!
It’s an eye catcher alright, but yeah, doesn’t look the most comfortable.
